Foot care is so important!

Quote from my great granny Flo “Look after your feet and your feet will look after you!”

Did you know that by looking at your feet you can pick up many health conditions?   Common problems like corns, cracked skin, and ingrown toenails can be treated successfully. Conditions like diabetes or circulatory problems can also be picked up by looking at the feet.

If you have a long-term condition, such as diabetes, arthritis or chronic problems with blood circulation in your legs, your feet are particularly vulnerable.

Looking after your feet (footcare) and treating common foot problems can help to prevent problems that make you unsteady on your feet and at risk of a fall. It can also reduce pain or discomfort, and improve your confidence, independence, and energy levels.

Not only can pedicures be a very relaxing experience, helping decrease stress at the time of your treatment, but as part of your self-care routine, pedicures can contribute to your ability to manage stress better in the long term. For those with long term health conditions that can desensitise the feeling in your feet having regular pedicures can help keep your feet healthier for longer.

Lots of people now ground themselves, which is good, but this hardens the skin on your feet. When we walk or stand, our body weight is carried first on the heel and then on the ball of the foot where the skin is thicker to withstand the pressure. When this pressure becomes excessive, some areas of skin thicken and form corns and callus, as a protective response to the friction of skin rubbing against a bone, shoe or the ground. We recommend grounding to earth 100% but we also recommend having that hard skin looked after 🙂 Keeping your dry/hard skin to a low will help prevent in growing toenails as the overgrowth of skin around and under the nail are the main cause of in growing toenails. Lessening pain and discomfort overall

Pedicures help:

  • Early detection of problems from fungal infections all the way through to heart problems.
  • Receiving regular treatment detects early signs of corns, bunions, and fungal infections.
  • Decreases the chances of infections
  • Preserves the skin’s moisture, exfoliates the feet,
  • Promotes healthy circulation, relaxes the body, and  relieves tired feet
  • Eliminates dead skin.

  • Keeps your skin supple and moisturized.

  • Improves circulation.
  • Self-care helps reduce stress.

As part of my session, I always end the session with a bit of a foot massage helping your feet to leave energised and check the pressure points in your foot for any further issues (reflexology)
